About Dogear
Good books should not become clutter.
Most readers own books they enjoyed but may never read again. At the same time, they keep buying more. Dogear was created to make passing a book forward as natural as choosing the next one.
A physical book does not stop being valuable when one reader finishes it. It stops being useful when it has nowhere to go.
Selling can be more trouble than it is worth
Listing and shipping an inexpensive used book can take time, and the small return may not help much with choosing your next read.
Donating is good, but one-directional
A donated book helps someone. It does not help you choose what to read next, and most of the time you never learn where it went.
An exchange does both
One reader passes a book forward and receives one they wanted. A good book keeps moving, and both readers come away with something they wanted.
What we are trying to make true
That more reading happens, with less unnecessary buying.
That a good book can have a fuller life, moving between readers rather than sitting still.
That the people passing books forward come to feel like a community, without anyone having to perform one.
Every exchange adds another chapter.
